I’ve thought about starting a blog for a while now. I wanted a way to share more with my clients and others, to use my experiences, expertise, and of related professionals to help you navigate life. In recent years, and because of personal experience, I’ve been working to shift the focus of my practice to financial matters surrounding marriage and divorce. Having been through my own divorce I understand the struggles and hardships that may arise when a marriage is dissolved. As a parent with joint custody, I can relate to the sensitive issues and emotional struggles felt by all in these circumstances. As a dad, former husband, son, Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and soon to be Certified Divorce Financial Analysts (CDFA), I want to use my experiences to help you.
If we wind up working together at some point, I look forward to learning all about you, but in the meantime, here is a little bit about me:
I was raised in Sullivan County, N.Y., a region of the Catskill mountains, by two hard working parents, married for over 50 years. My Dad, originally an electrician by trade, was entrepreneurial and had multiple small businesses through most of my childhood. My mom worked for the town, and played an integral role in my father’s businesses as her secondary job. They taught me to save first and not overspend along with many lessons of what it takes to operate a small business day to day.
Sullivan County was home to me, but to others it was the “Borscht Belt,” “upstate”, the mountains, an escape and more. It had it’s heyday as a family destination for middle-upper class visitors, mostly Jewish, from the tri-state area. It was dotted with hundreds of bungalow colonies, boarding houses and home to grand resorts like the Concord and Grossinger’s. However over time, with economic shifts, cheap airfares, the popularity of seaside vacations and the decline of anti-Semitism had a huge impact on the tourism industry in the region. Despite these setbacks, there has always been a rich history of art, music, culture, and nostalgia - all of which are playing an integral role in the current rebirth of the area. Hallmark new properties like Resorts World Catskills Casino, Kartright Water Park, and Wellness Resort & Spa Catskills are breathing new life into this beautiful area that struggled for many years to regain its footing.
As I excitedly watch the ongoing rebirth of my hometown, I can’t help but see it’s connection to my philosophy in life and business. Keep those roots well nourished. There may be rough patches along the way, but you can come back reimagined and better than before. Find your strengths and follow them. Life is cyclical, and with the right guidance and support system you too can always come out on top.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with you and that of other experts in related fields. I look forward to helping you navigate the twists and turns of life, be it through my blog posts, or a working relationship. I’ll be back with a second post soon!
